    Project Overview

Taking a bold step forward and breaking with years of trading tradition Argos chose J M Scully to deliver a 4-store London based trial of their new digital format.

Choosing to incorporate a trial in their very first trading store in Old Street Central London presented several significant challenges notwithstanding the usual central London issues in co-ordinating deliveries and restriction on skips and parking but one of the major challenges was the close proximity of residential units above and adjacent the site with re-sequencing required to contain all noisy works and deliveries to out of normal hours and 24 hour, 7 day working to allow Argos to remain live and trading throughout the period of the works.

Major works included conversion of the existing sales floor to create additional back of house space, new staff welfare facilities and a new d.p.m and vinyl floor solution throughout. The biggest challenge for the professional team was the incorporation of a completely new IT solution and the J M Scully team worked around several challenges to the infrastructure and programme issue associated with delivering this new system.

Design wise the store is a significant step away from the familiar Argos look and feel with a stripped back to shell look, exposed services and a very light touch desking solution but the real impact comes from the very clever use of Audio Visual treatment throughout the store providing a very interactive, informative and ever changing environment for the shopper.

All four stores were converted concurrently and within a matter of days of each other with worked solutions from one store quickly incorporated into another to allow Argos to concentrate on the major challenge of IT integration and staff training.

A bold step into the future of retailing for Argos and one where we hope J M Scully can continue to build on an already long term successful relationship.
